The original LucasArts adventure. Guybrush Threepwood arrives on Mêlée Island, learns to swordfight through insults, falls for Governor Elaine Marley, and confronts the undead pirate ghost LeChuck. Features the first use of iMUSE.
1991
Darker and more ambitious. Guybrush hunts the treasure Big Whoop across four islands while LeChuck pursues vengeance. Michael Land's iMUSE score is outstanding. The ending remains one of gaming's most debated finales.
1997
After a six-year gap, LucasArts returned without Gilbert. Hand-painted art, full voice acting with Dominic Armato, Murray the Skull, Blood Island, and the legendary Caribbean cruise sequence. New composers expanded the music.
2000
LucasArts' first 3D Monkey Island. Guybrush and Elaine face Ozzie Mandrill's theme park development scheme and Australian cultural imperialism. Monkey Kombat was controversial; the voodoo doll plot was inventive.
2009
Telltale's episodic adventure in five chapters. The Voodoo Pox spreads through the Caribbean. Guybrush encounters the French naturalist De Singe, the ghost pirate hunter Morgan LeFlay, and an ending that genuinely shocked.
2022
Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman return. Published by Devolver Digital, with art by Rex Crowle. Guybrush is finally back on Monkey Island — and so is the Secret. The ending fans waited 30 years for.
