The Voodoo Pox
Guybrush uses an enchanted cutlass in an attempt to defeat LeChuck — but instead accidentally releases a Voodoo Pox that transforms normal pirates into rampaging undead. The pox spreads across the Caribbean. Guybrush must contain it while facing the French naturalist Doctor Coronado De Singe, who seeks the legendary La Esponja Grande.
The five chapters span Flotsam Island, Spinner Cay, Lair of the Leviathan, The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood, and Rise of the Pirate God — each an episodic adventure with its own villain and cliffhanger.
The character of Morgan LeFlay — a pirate hunter pursuing Guybrush — was introduced as a new series regular and proved extremely popular with fans.
Rise of the Pirate God
The final chapter ends with Guybrush dead — killed by LeChuck — and Elaine taking centre stage to fight the now all-powerful Pirate God. Guybrush is resurrected using voodoo, and the story concludes with LeChuck finally, definitively defeated.
The ending divided fans: Guybrush's death in episode four was a genuine shock for players following the series episode by episode, and the resolution satisfied some and frustrated others. Critically, Tales was well received as a respectful continuation of the series that understood its characters and tone.
