Cancelled: Superman "Blue Steel" (2008)

Status: Cancelled · Publisher Collapse

Factor 5 was developing a Superman game codenamed "Blue Steel" for publisher Brash Entertainment when Brash collapsed in late 2008. The project was cancelled, leaving Factor 5 without a publisher and without the funding to continue operations.

Blue Steel's cancellation was a direct cause of Factor 5 Inc.'s closure in early 2009. The game was never released or publicly demonstrated. Information about the project comes from post-closure interviews and the Kotaku 2009 retrospective piece.

The Epic Games Cologne office works on Unreal Engine development and Epic's broader development operations in the European region.

Turrican IP Recovery (2017)

Julian Eggebrecht re-acquired the Factor 5 intellectual property in 2017, including the Turrican franchise. This recovery was the prerequisite for the 2021 and 2022 Turrican revival compilations published by ININ Games.

Eggebrecht has discussed the IP recovery in interviews, particularly the Retro Hour EP261, contextualising it within his broader view of Factor 5's legacy and the importance of the Turrican series to the studio's identity.
