How to play Geoff Crammond's games in 2026. Grand Prix 2 under DOSBox, The Sentinel via BBC Micro emulation, and community patches that keep the games running on modern hardware.
Grand Prix 2 via DOSBox
Grand Prix 2 (1996) is a DOS game and runs well under DOSBox-X, the most actively maintained DOSBox fork. The community at grandprixgames.org has produced extensive setup documentation and patches that fix compatibility issues on modern hardware.
Basic Setup
- Download DOSBox-X from dosbox-x.com. Version 2024.x or later is recommended.
- Obtain Grand Prix 2 from the Internet Archive at archive.org/details/grand-prix-2 (the British English v1.0b release).
- Extract the game files to a folder on your system - for example
C:\DOS\GP2\. - Mount the folder in DOSBox-X:
MOUNT C C:\DOSthenC:thenCD GP2. - Run
GP2.EXE. The game should start with its opening cinematic.
Recommended Patches
The grandprixgames.org community maintains patches that address frame-rate issues, improve wheel support, and add widescreen support. Check the forum's GP2 section for the current recommended patch set before starting a career.
The Sentinel via BBC Micro Emulation
The Sentinel (1986) runs on the BBC Micro original using BeebEm, the most widely used BBC Micro emulator. The game is also available for C64, Amiga, and Atari ST if you prefer those platforms.
BBC Micro Original
- Download BeebEm from mkw.me.uk/beebem or the GitHub releases page.
- Locate a BBC Micro disc image of The Sentinel. The Internet Archive and bbcelite.com's resources page list verified sources.
- Open BeebEm, go to File > Load Disc, and select the disc image file (.ssd or .dsd).
- Type
CHAIN "SENTINEL"at the BASIC prompt and press Enter. - The game loads and presents the level select screen. Start at level 0 if you are new to the game.
Amiga and Atari ST Versions
- For the Amiga version, use FS-UAE or WinUAE with an A500 configuration.
- For the Atari ST version, use Hatari emulator.
- Both versions were ported by Steve Bak and use the same level system as the BBC Micro original. Level codes are compatible across platforms.
Aviator and Revs via BBC Micro Emulation
Both Aviator (1983) and Revs (1984) run on BeebEm with standard Model B configuration. Mark Moxon's disassembly sites at aviator.bbcelite.com and revs.bbcelite.com provide additional context on what the code is actually doing while you play.
Loading Revs
- Download and install BeebEm (see The Sentinel setup above for emulator download link).
- Load a Revs disc image from a verified BBC Micro archive source.
- Type
CHAIN "REVS"at the BASIC prompt. - Revs supports analogue joystick input - the BeebEm joystick configuration in the Hardware menu maps your modern USB controller to the BBC Micro's analogue port.
- The 1985 track pack (Brands Hatch, Donnington, Oulton Park, Snetterton) is a separate disc - load it for additional circuits.
Community Patches for Grand Prix 4
Grand Prix 4 (2002) runs on modern Windows with the community patch available from grandprixgames.org. The patch addresses compatibility issues with modern graphics APIs and high-resolution display modes. Annual season mods - described in Modern Scene - work on top of the patched base game.
