WinUAE (Windows)

Full Amiga Emulation · Windows

WinUAE is the most fully-featured Amiga emulator available. It provides accurate emulation of the Amiga 500, 600, 1200, and other models - covering every Thalion title in the catalogue. Configuration is involved but well-documented.

WinUAE is the correct choice for playing Thalion's Amiga titles in their original form, including Wings of Death, Lionheart, and No Second Prize, with accurate TFMX audio playback.

Emulation Setup Guide

Step 1: Acquire Kickstart ROMs

Amiga emulation requires Kickstart ROM files - the Amiga's operating system firmware. These are legally sold by Amiga Forever (Cloanto), which provides a legal licence to the ROMs alongside a bundled Amiga emulation package. Kickstart 1.3 and 3.1 cover the vast majority of Thalion titles.

Step 2: Obtain Game Disc Images

Thalion's games are available as ADF (Amiga Disk File) or WHDLoad-compatible archives. WHDLoad versions are generally recommended as they install to the Amiga's hard drive (emulated), skip original copy protection, and often fix compatibility issues with newer Kickstart versions. WHDLoad packages are maintained by the Amiga community and indexed at Hall of Light.

Step 3: Configure the Emulator

For most Thalion Amiga titles, an Amiga 500 (OCS/ECS chipset, 512 KB chip RAM, 512 KB slow RAM, Kickstart 1.3) provides accurate playback. Lionheart and Ambermoon benefit from an Amiga 1200 or Amiga 500 with expanded RAM and Kickstart 2.0/3.1. Both WinUAE and FS-UAE allow precise hardware configuration.

Step 4: Audio

Thalion's TFMX audio plays through the emulated Amiga Paula chip. Both WinUAE and FS-UAE reproduce Paula audio accurately. For standalone listening, TFMX module files from the Thalion Webshrine can be played in OpenMPT or similar tracker applications.
