Way of the Rodent
Minter's personal blog, maintained from the late 1990s through the present day, is one of the most candid documents in game development history. Originally hosted on llamasoft.co.uk, the blog chronicles his development process, his frustrations with the games industry, his thoughts on hardware, and - frequently - his livestock.
Key posts trace the development of Space Giraffe, the aftermath of its reception, the creation of Tempest 4000, and the slow accumulation of the Llamasoft Story project. Minter writes in an unmediated, stream-of-consciousness style that makes the blog feel closer to a diary than a PR exercise.
Archived posts from the early 2000s are preserved through the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine. See the Resources page for links.
History of Llamasoft (PDF)
Minter wrote an extensive history of Llamasoft - covering the ZX81 years through the early 2000s - available as a PDF document. This document is the primary source for many details of Llamasoft's early history and Minter's own account of the C64 golden era.
The PDF covers the founding of Llamasoft, the distribution methods of the early 1980s (mail order, cassette tape), the relationship with Salamander Software, the transition to 16-bit machines, and the creative thinking behind key games including Gridrunner, Iridis Alpha, and Llamatron: 2112.
It is preserved via llamaSource and the Internet Archive. See Resources for the link.
Game Developer Interview (2025)
In 2025, Game Developer published an extended interview with Minter covering his career from the ZX81 to the present day. The interview touched on the Llamasoft Story project, the state of indie development, his relationship with platforms (particularly Apple and Steam), and his continuing work on new games.
Minter was characteristically direct about the commercial realities of being a one-man studio in the current market and equally direct about why he has no intention of stopping. The interview is one of the most comprehensive recent accounts of his career and creative philosophy.
Mastodon & Social Writing
Minter is active on Mastodon at @llamasoft_ox@toot.wales, where he posts regularly about development, llamas, and the state of the games industry. His social writing continues the direct, personal tone of Way of the Rodent - primary source material for understanding current Llamasoft projects.
The Mastodon account is the best way to follow new Llamasoft releases and development updates in real time. See the Community page for links to the Mastodon profile and fan communities.
