Common Misattributions
Three Nintendo titles are consistently misattributed to Kondo across the internet. The actual composers deserve credit. This section exists to correct the record.
These titles were NOT composed by Koji Kondo
F-Zero (SNES, 1990) - "Koji Kondo"
Composed by Yumiko Kanki
The iconic Mute City and Big Blue themes - some of the most energetic music in Nintendo's catalogue - were written by Kanki, not Kondo. The misattribution persists because of Nintendo branding; Kondo is not credited anywhere on F-Zero. Source: MobyGames credits; VGMdb.
Super Mario Land (Game Boy, 1989) - "Koji Kondo"
Composed by Hirokazu Tanaka
Super Mario Land's quirky, bouncy soundtrack - distinct from any NES Mario game - was composed by Hirokazu Tanaka (not to be confused with OoT co-composer Shinobu Tanaka). The different composer accounts for why it sounds so different from Kondo's Mario work. Source: MobyGames credits.
Star Fox (SNES, 1993) - "Koji Kondo"
Composed by Hajime Hirasawa
Star Fox's propulsive, cinematic score was composed by Hajime Hirasawa - again, not Kondo. The misattribution is common because the game is a flagship Nintendo title. Hirasawa composed for the Super FX chip hardware constraints, and the results are entirely his own. Source: MobyGames credits; VGMdb.
