Play Kaiko Games

Options for experiencing Kaiko's titles in 2026.

WHDLoad - Hard Drive Installers

WHDLoad is the standard method for running original Amiga titles on real hardware or emulators. WHDLoad installers for Kaiko games patch them to run from hard drive, remove copy protection, and fix various compatibility issues with modern Amiga configurations.

Apidya and Gem'X both have WHDLoad packages. You will need a legal copy of the original game or access to a preserved disk image in a jurisdiction where this is permitted.

Internet Archive - Browser Emulator

The Internet Archive hosts browser-playable Amiga game preservations using the JSMESS / js-amiga emulator. Kaiko titles are accessible through the Archive's software collection, allowing in-browser play without any local emulator setup.

Search the Internet Archive for "Apidya Amiga" or "Gem'X Amiga" to find preserved disk images with in-browser play enabled. Note that these run in a JavaScript Amiga emulator and performance varies by machine.

FS-UAE - Desktop Emulation

FS-UAE is the recommended Amiga emulator for desktop use. Combined with WHDLoad packages and legally obtained disk images, it provides accurate Amiga emulation with modern conveniences. FS-UAE supports A500, A1200, and other configurations.

For Apidya, the A500 configuration is recommended for the most authentic experience. The game was developed for and tested on the A500.

Apidya' Special - ININ Games (2026)

Apidya' Special is an announced remake of Apidya by ININ Games, in development as of 2026. ININ has published several quality retro revivals and has secured the rights to the original IP. The remake is expected to be released for modern platforms (specific platforms TBC at time of writing).

Apidya' Special represents the first official commercial re-release of the game since the Software 2000 budget reprint. It is expected to include the original Hülsbeck soundtrack and Matzke's visual aesthetic.

See the Modern page for more detail on Apidya' Special.

A Note on Legal Access

Kaiko dissolved in 1995 and the rights status of individual titles is complex. Apidya' Special (ININ Games) suggests that the Apidya rights have been acquired by a current entity, but as of 2026, Gem'X, Turrican 3, and Quik & Silva are not available through any official digital storefront.

The Internet Archive's browser-play versions operate under a preservation and access rationale. Users outside the United States should verify the legal status of accessing preserved software under their local copyright law before using these services.
