Modern Legacy

The DMA Design games never died. NeoLemmix, Lemmini, Lix, and active fan communities keep the lemmings walking.

NeoLemmix

NeoLemmix is the primary active community port of Lemmings, developed and maintained by a dedicated team of Lemmings enthusiasts. Available for Windows, NeoLemmix faithfully reimplements the original Lemmings physics while adding enhancements:

  • Support for all original Lemmings games as level packs
  • Hundreds of community-created custom level packs
  • Improved graphical scaling and display options
  • New terrain and object types for custom level design
  • Active development with regular updates

The NeoLemmix community on Lemmings Universe produces a constant stream of new level packs — from beginner-friendly to expert-only. If you have any interest in Lemmings puzzle design, NeoLemmix is where to go.

Lemmini

Lemmini is a Java-based reimplementation of Lemmings that runs cross-platform on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It requires the original Lemmings data files and a Java runtime. While not as actively developed as NeoLemmix, Lemmini provides a solid cross-platform option for non-Windows users who want to play original Lemmings levels with modern display support.

The SuperLemmini fork adds additional features and improved compatibility. Search for “SuperLemmini” for the most up-to-date Java-based Lemmings port.

Lix

Lix is an open-source puzzle game inspired by Lemmings, developed by Simon Stelling. While not a direct port, Lix takes the core Lemmings concept — guide creatures to safety by assigning skills — and extends it with multiplayer support, a level editor, and a large community level library.

Lix is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Its multiplayer mode — where players compete to save the most lemmings from a shared pool — adds a dimension completely absent from the original games.

OpenLemmings

OpenLemmings is an open-source reimplementation of Lemmings. The project aims for faithful reimplementation of the original game engine and supports original data files. Check the project's current status for the most recent release.

Uniracers Fan Preservation

Uniracers (1994, SNES) remains one of gaming's great tragedies — a million-seller halted by Pixar's legal action, with no sequel ever produced. The fan community has worked to preserve and celebrate the original game through SNES emulation (Snes9x, bsnes/higan), ROM preservation, and occasional discussion of potential spiritual successors.

The game runs perfectly on any SNES emulator and is worth seeking out for its remarkably fluid physics and frantic multiplayer racing. See trivia page for the full Pixar lawsuit story.

Body Harvest Fan Scene

Body Harvest (1998, N64) remains a beloved cult title whose ambitious open-world design foreshadowed GTA III. The N64 community has preserved the game through emulation (Project64, Mupen64Plus) and there is ongoing interest in the game's open-world mechanics as a predecessor to the modern open-world genre.

Body Harvest has not received any official re-release or remaster. N64 emulation is the primary means of playing it today. For development context, see the history page and the Noclip documentary (see videos).
