Amiga Emulators

For the authentic Amiga experience — with correct audio through Paula’s four channels and proper OCS/ECS/AGA chip timing — dedicated Amiga emulators are the recommended approach. You will need original or legally obtained ROM and game files.

WinUAE EMULATION

The definitive Amiga emulator for Windows. Cycle-accurate emulation of OCS, ECS, and AGA chipsets. Supports ADF, WHDLoad, and hard drive images. Free.

FS-UAE EMULATION

Cross-platform Amiga emulator (Windows, macOS, Linux) built on the WinUAE core. Supports gamepads natively. Ideal for Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies with a joystick.

Amiga Forever EMULATION

Commercial Amiga emulation package by Cloanto. Includes legal Kickstart ROMs and a curated library. Easiest setup for users unfamiliar with Amiga emulation configuration.

A Note on Amiga vs. DOS Versions

The Internet Archive’s in-browser play uses the DOS ports of the Digital Illusions pinball games. While convenient, these ports differ from the Amiga originals in meaningful ways: the audio runs through PC hardware rather than the Amiga’s Paula chip, and the visual timing may differ slightly between the OCS/ECS Amiga and DOS VGA implementations.

For the experience the reviewers and fans of the era actually had, the Amiga versions emulated through WinUAE or FS-UAE are the correct choice. Pinball Illusions in particular was built for Amiga AGA — the DOS port does not represent the game at its best.
