The Composer

Born in Stuttgart in 1968, Chris Hülsbeck began composing music for the Commodore 64 at age seventeen. His 1986 entry "Shades" won the prestigious 64'er magazine competition - a debut that announced a career defined by technical innovation and melodic brilliance.

At Rainbow Arts from 1987, Hülsbeck shaped the sound of a generation: Katakis, R-Type, and The Great Giana Sisters pushed the SID chip to its architectural limits. His Turrican scores (1990–1992) are studied in chiptune scholarship as foundational works of the form.

Co-founding Factor 5, he developed TFMX - the first professional game music format supporting seven channels and real-time mixing. From the N64 era through today's indie scene, Hülsbeck continues composing original scores that honour retro aesthetics while embracing modern orchestration.
